40-a-day two-year-old quits his ciggie habit after spell in rehab

Categories: Latest news

A two year old boy who was hooked on cigarettes has kicked his 40-a-day habit after a spell in rehab, enduring treatments which left him banging his head against the walls and screaming as his withdrawal took hold.Aldi Rizal, who lives in Sekayu, Indonesia, was placed into therapy by worried officials, despite his parents only asking for help when their son's nicotine habit became a financial burden.

Aldi was first given a cigarette by his father to 'ease a headache' when he was just eleven months old. The toddler soon became addicted, throwing tantrums if his demands for more tobacco were not met.

After three months of treatment, Aldi is said to be free of cravings and playing normally for the first time, although medics say his heart lining has thickened and he often appears listless and vacant.

His mother, Diana, 26, told reporters she was glad her son was no longer smoking, adding: 'The money can now go on other things.'

What do you think about this story? Should his parents be facing prosecution?
Honestly sometimes when you read these storys you would think they were made up....

A policeman, from the elite CO19 firearms unit, was attending a briefing in Lambeth, south London, on Tuesday morning between 7am and 8.30.

As he was preparing to leave, he put the Taser and cartridges on the roof of his marked police car, and then drove off without collecting it.

Taser gun: Husband set up taser to prevent wife having affair

Tasers have been used by police to subdue fleeing or dangerous suspects since 2008

An hour and a half later he realised it was missing and despite a frantic search it has not been recovered.

Eye for an eye: Iranian man sentenced to have drops of acid poured onto his face for blinding his lover's husband

An Iranian man who blinded his lover's husband is to suffer a similar fate in a tit-for-tat sentencing - by having acid poured into his eye.

Iran’s Islamic code allows for ‘an eye-for-an-eye, a tooth-for-a-tooth’ retribution - known as 'qisas' - in cases of violent crime.

The convict, named only as Mojtaba, threw acid in the face of his rival Alireza, a taxi driver, after an illicit affair with the victim’s wife, Mojdeh.

Tough justice: Iran's capital, Tehran, where convicted criminals can be sentenced to an eye-for-an-eye punishment

Tough justice: Iran's capital, Tehran, where convicted criminals can be sentenced to an eye-for-an-eye punishment

All three are 25 and live in Qom, Iran’s clerical nerve centre 60 miles south of the capital, Tehran.

The grotesque penalty was passed by a lower court and upheld by Iran’s supreme court, a government daily, Iran, reported this weekend.

The Qom prosecutor, Mostafa Barzegar Ganji, said the victim had used his right to qisas.

'We have asked for forensic specialists to oversee the blinding of the convict,' he added.

Extreme punishments can be waived if the victim chooses to accept 'blood money' in reparation, and ‘eye for eye’ punishments are rarely carried out.

Similarly in capital cases, there have been several instances in Iran and Saudi Arabia where a convicted murderer’s life has been spared at the eleventh hour when their victim’s family has shown mercy.

Qisas sentences infuriate local reformists and are invariably branded as an 'abhorrent' form of 'judicial torture' by international human rights groups.

In August, a Saudi man convicted of paralysing a countryman in a cleaver attack two years earlier was sentenced to have his spinal cord cut as punishment. But it appears the punishment was not carried out.

Two leading Saudi hospitals insisted they would not conduct the operation and the judge later denied that he had seriously considered ordering the mutilation.

He was reportedly persuaded to backtrack by King Abdullah, the Saudi monarch, who wants to clamp down on extremist ideology and improve his country’s forbidding image.

In February last year a university student in Iran was sentenced to be blinded in both eyes for having hurled acid in the face of a female classmate, who refused his proposal of marriage. Again, there has been no reported confirmation that the sentence was carried out.

Ten years ago an Egyptian worker had an eye surgically removed in a Saudi hospital as punishment for disfiguring a compatriot in an acid attack six years earlier.

That was said to be the first time in 40 years that a Saudi court had applied the principle of 'an eye for an eye', local media said at the time.

Religious ritual believed to be behind death of girl who was found with her heart cut out and other organs strewn round home

Neighbours of a mother arrested after her four-year-old daughter was killed as an apparent religious offering told how they heard screams from the family's flat.

Nusayba Bharuchi's corpse was found stabbed to death in the kitchen with her heart and other organs cut out and strewn around her flat and lying next to her mother, Shayna.

The 35-year-old woman was allegedly chanting verses of the Koran as her daughter's disembowelled corpse lay next to her in the home in Clapton, East London.

The Saltire underpants test.

Securing the post of convener at the newly-formed Crofting Commission has been likened to having to pass "a Saltire underpants test".

Lib Dem MSP Tavish Scott made the accusation in criticism of the Scottish government's decision on how the appointment will be made.

Ministers will consider a recommendation from civil servants.

Labour and the Tories have also attacked the move. The government said the process was open and transparent.

The Crofting Commission met for the first time on Monday following the first elections to its board.

Crofters have told BBC Alba of their concerns that the public agency's nine commissioners - six of them elected by crofters - would not be choosing a convener among themselves.

Patrick Krause, chief executive of the Scottish Crofting Federation, said that this decision questioned Environment Secretary Stewart Stevenson's commitment to democracy within the commission.

He said: "Clearly the minister doesn't have enough confidence in the commission to allow them to choose their own convener.

"Elsewhere we have heard of the spread of democracy through the Arab Spring.

"Is it not time to allow democracy to apply in crofting and to have a Crofting Spring where the commission can be allowed to make its own decisions?"

'Seems high-handed'

Tavish Scott, MSP for Shetland, said that he would be writing to Mr Stevenson.

He said: "This is a terrible decision and is consistent with the command and control being exercised by the SNP government on a whole range of issues.

"They won't make an appointment unless they are sure the person passes the Saltire underpants test.

A year-long investigation of departments handling property repairs has been carried out by police and independent auditors.

Information passed to the BBC suggests malpractice by officials was more widespread than originally thought.

The council has said it will report on the investigation it commissioned in the next three months.

One former employee of a department not linked to the original investigation said: "I'm absolutely convinced that kickbacks were involved. Holidays, booze, upgrading their cars.

"Some of the guys were shady. Meetings would take place around their cars outside instead of in the office.

"Jobs would be signed off as completed… the contractors would be paid… but a school janitor or a care home would call up to say it hadn't been done at all or had been done badly."

(DATA for Glasgow Council will be available soon.)

Three Brazilian cannibals cooked their victims and turned them into pastries in a real-life version of the Sweeney Todd.

Karate expert Jorge Beltrao Negromonte, his wife Isabel Pires, 51, and his mistress Bruna da Silva, 25, lured the women to their house with the promise of work as a nanny.

The sick trio then killed their victims and used the flesh to make stuffed pastries known as empanadas that they sold to neighbors in Pernambuco in the northeastern part of the country, police said.

Alexandra Falcao, 20, is thought to have been one of the trio's victims, after disappearing near their house

Police have found two bodies in the garden of a house belonging to the group.

They believe the bodies found could be those of Alexandra Falcao, 20, and Gisele da Silva, 30, who were reported missing in the area recently.

The two women were reportedly seen near the house of the suspects shortly before they disappeared.

The killings mirror those of the fictional barber Sweeney Todd who slit the throats of his victims in his shop in Fleet Street.

Todd's partner in crime Mrs Lovett helps him to dispose the bodies by baking their flesh into meat pies, and selling them to the unsuspecting customers of her shop.

The Brazillian cannibals belonged to a sect that preached 'the purification of the world and the reduction of its population',
